The 24-pin cable doesn’t fit back into the Psu after removal
I recently purchased a new SATA SSD because I needed more storage space. When I opened the back of my case, I found I didn’t have a SATA cable for the SSD. Fortunately, I still had a modular power supply and one SATA cable in my PSU bag. However, upon checking the PSU side, I noticed the connector was positioned under the 24-pin motherboard cable, making it impossible to connect properly due to the tight space. I therefore removed the 24MB cable and connected the SATA cable instead. After doing that, I tried reinserting the 24MB cable back into the PSU, but it wouldn’t clip properly. I’ve tried pushing it in repeatedly, but it still doesn’t want to secure itself. I’m worried about powering it on, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I would remove the power supply and look for any bent pins inside the 24-pin connector. It’s better to spend a few hours examining everything and making sure the cables are connected correctly rather than trying to force a pin and risking damage to the PSU.
It might be that your SSD power cable is forcing the 24p connector upward.
I removed the PSU and didn’t find any bent pins inside, which is a positive outcome. I guess it might just be the clip refusing to work, though I’m not sure.
I verified the measurement and it’s not correct. There’s approximately 2 mm of clearance.
It could be that the 20p cable works properly while the remaining four are crossed.
Verify that the pins are properly positioned in the sockets. They don’t have a tight fit and can shift slightly.
