Hi, I bought this laptop from a marketplace recently. I set it up completely new and tested everything, including the speakers which worked well. Then I swapped out the drive I had removed and installed the one from my old 2023 M16. My laptop has the following specs: Asus G18, Windows 11 Pro, fully updated i9-13980HX, 64GB DDR5 4800MT, 1TB SSD, and RTX 4080. The migration went mostly smoothly, but the speakers now sound really bad—like they’re underwater or blocked by something. I checked all audio settings to make sure no enhancements or Dolby options were active. It’s worth noting I don’t use any Asus-specific software and used helper tools. After taking it apart, I confirmed the speakers were intact and clean. I removed the Realtek drivers and tried the recommended ones from Asus, but they didn’t help. I also updated Windows and BIOS, just in case. If anyone has suggestions or fixes, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Did you just install fresh windows? Likely audio driver issues and leftover remnants from an old driver are preventing the new one from functioning properly. These kinds of problems occur, and the best solution is a complete reinstall as it will resolve the underlying issues.

Thank you for your reply. I took the time to reinstall the original SSD and added the speakers, and everything now works perfectly. This is the first time I’ve fixed an audio issue this way. I’ll note it as resolved and appreciate your help. Have a great day!

About ten years ago, even Windows would struggle to start. Now it manages to get a working desktop after major hardware upgrades, but these problems remain frequent. The safest approach is to perform a clean installation whenever possible.
