Preferences are acceptable, and AMD is performing well in the CPU department after a decade of setbacks. However, certain offerings still fall short. The XT variants are designed to push extra sales by hiding the lack of special features in the CPU. High-core-count models aren't ideal for gaming either; just a few cores are now considered standard. Too many cores can cause delays as the operating system attempts to manage them.

It's interesting to hear, thank you. I was a bit concerned about my recent purchase of a Ruzen 5 3600 since it only had 6 cores, while I thought 8 cores were now the standard. Appreciate the update!

I wonder about the newest 3950x models and whether they lean toward XT configurations (like 4.5 1900 bus, which would be problematic on a 3950x). Even without a name change, some users might still see 3900xt or opt for a 3950x, though these aren't considered value products anymore. My main concern is the lower-end XT chips.

Only a handful of titles can fully leverage eight cores, and none require them. Unless you're working on tasks like video editing that are designed for multi-core performance, investing in the GPU would be more sensible. It seems there might be confusion—someone likely meant eight threads instead of eight cores, since that's accurate. A CPU with four cores and eight threads (like any i7 from Kaby Lake or earlier) will perform much better than its four-core, four-thread counterparts, especially in games that don't disable Hyper-Threading.

I’ve seen some creators comparing a 3600+ setup versus a 10700k with an 2080S vs 2080Ti, and the performance differences were minimal—around 1% across games. I think this will shift as more powerful chips arrive, but with Zen 3’s release we’ll need to check where the best value gaming CPU ends up. It should probably stay around a 6 or 12-core Zen 3 model.
