I'm trying to set up a male to female USB 3.0 extender from Amazon Basics, but it doesn't function well on the front ports of my case. It works fine on the back ports. Could you guess why? It might be related to cable length and power limits—since the front port is already connected through a long cable to the motherboard, adding another cable could increase total length and reduce power at the end. I'm testing it with a Kingston USB 3.0 thumb drive, which works when plugged into the back with the extender and when connected to the front using the same cable, showing up as a yellow exclamation mark.

Yes, though the problem seems to stem from lower signal strength rather than power issues.

In short, increasing cable length and using connectors adds resistance, which can cause the signal to weaken rapidly.

I almost missed this part of the story. It turns out my front USB data pins got damaged inside the port by an unauthorized USB device. Connecting anything caused a short circuit. After that, I removed them and switched to the rear ports using the same cable and a hub, which provided much faster performance. I discovered this recently while tidying up.
