That's not great 😞
Purchased an outdated motherboard from eBay. The seller assured functionality, but I always test components before disassembling to avoid responsibility for damage. Once powered on, it sparked and emitted a burning odor, prompting an immediate shutdown. Now I need to inspect the board for obvious issues, starting with removing the CPU cooler. Initially everything seemed fine, but something seemed amiss—the CPU socket appeared slightly bent, possibly under extra pressure (hard to discern in the photo). After a minute, I realized the socket orientation was incorrect; it matched the eBay board, not the one I bought. The seller had installed it upside down. My first assumption was that the seller would suspect me, so I checked the thermal paste alignment on both the cooler and CPU to confirm the installation error. The listing photo showed the CPU in the wrong position, which might explain the issue. I haven’t received a reply yet, but given the timing, it seems unlikely I’m at fault.
Even though he might now shift the blame, he still holds the final decision because he already has your funds. If he refuses to return them, what options do you truly have? None. It's frustrating how things sometimes go, but that's just the nature of it. Stay safe and good luck—this one’s tough. Sorry.
It seems like there might be a misunderstanding. At first, it appears the issue is clearly his responsibility, so hopefully he will take ownership and address it. If not, I’m confident I can resolve the matter with eBay since I have the 30-day return window.
