That's all!
...connection issues and dropped signals.
Here’s a breakdown of potential troubleshooting steps:
1. **Signal Strength:** Verify the signal strength reported by your router/modem diagnostics. A weak signal is a common cause of slow speeds or intermittent connectivity.
2. **Router Placement:** Ensure your router is positioned in a central location, away from obstructions like walls and metal objects.
3. **Firmware Updates:** Keep both your router and modem firmware updated to the latest versions for optimal performance and security.
4. **Interference:** Identify potential sources of interference, such as cordless phones or other wireless devices.
5. **Direct Connection (Troubleshooting):** If you're using a router, temporarily connect your computer directly to the modem to bypass the router and see if the issue persists. This can help determine whether the problem lies with the router itself.
6. **Modem Reset:** Perform a factory reset on your modem – this will erase all settings and restore it to its default configuration. *Note: You’ll need to reconfigure your network afterward.*
7. **Contact ISP:** If none of these steps resolve the issue, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for further assistance. They can check for problems on their end or provide more specific troubleshooting guidance.
You should log in to the web interface of the xFinity router/modem. Then dig through the options to find your connection diagnostics. It should list such as your signal strength. I don't mean signal to your PC you're on Ethernet. But the modems signal to them. The same may be done if you switch back to your modem. As the modem doesn't seem to be the issue.
If you just got a straight modem and are using a router of your own. You'll need to connect directly to the modem to view the web interface for it.
Also if they installed a signal booster for your cable lines. You'll need to locate that. Then make sure your modem is on the modem lead or not connected to the booster at all. As the booster can interfere with cable modems. Causing frequent connection drops.
