Textures in GTA V on PC load slowly.
I’m facing an issue with GTA V where the textures load slowly. You notice the loading process becomes more detailed, starting from a basic mesh and building up layer by layer until you’re very close to the scene. The edges appear blurry and look unpolished even at short distances. Certain elements like trees, lampposts, buildings, and roads are particularly affected. At around half a 10-car garage distance, the perspective distortion is noticeable—about as noticeable as it would be in a large space. This is frustrating because the problem isn’t related to my hardware; I have a high-end system with an i7 4790K and 760, while another friend with an older setup (FX-4100 and 260X) has smooth textures. Despite trying multiple settings and reinstalling several times, the issue persists. I’m really hoping someone can help me improve the visual quality.
I've experimented with various adjustments for this game. My system has an i3 2120 and a GTX 650 Ti. When I lower the settings to normal, I get around 30-40 frames per second. If I disable VRAM usage in the settings and set it to high, the graphics improve significantly and FPS rises from 30 to 50. I don't understand why this happens. Please try it out. Make sure everything except shadows and textures is set to high, increase distance scaling in advanced video options to high, and enable the "Ignore the GPU memory" option. Hope it works!
It simply reduced my FPS by around ten points, causing me to drop below 25. This issue occurs with a brand new 7200RPM 1TB drive, while my friend’s setup uses an older HDD and his PC is about three years old. It seems my friend’s setup with an SSD performs better, as the read speeds are around 180MB/s, which is typical.
Adjust the anisotropic filtering settings using your Catalyst Control Centre. This should push the game to fetch textures from greater distances, enhancing quality at range. Currently, this filter has minimal impact on performance but can boost texture clarity when far away. If issues persist, consider running a disk defrag just in case it's hindering speed. Also check the pagefile settings—your 8GB RAM should suffice without needing it active. Disabling it might help if that’s the problem.
I’ll try to boost performance in CCC. It should clear issues about once a week, but I’ll do it by hand just in case. I’m not sure what the pagefile does, could you clarify a bit?
Adjusting it in CCC didn't make a difference. Defragmentation boosted my read speeds to 200MB/s, yet the game continued to load textures very slowly and poorly.
Pagefile acts like a virtual memory solution, replacing physical RAM with unused disk space. It functions well on machines with less than 8GB of RAM, but newer systems with 8GB or more can handle it without problems. You can turn it off if needed. The main purpose of keeping a 500MB pagefile is to capture blue screen error codes for future reference and troubleshooting. For more details and steps on managing it, check the guide at the provided link. It seems your computer might be relying on the pagefile instead of actual RAM, which could be slowing things down due to the slower HDD. If you're unsure about disabling it, setting it to the minimum 500MB is a safe option for saving space while still retaining error logs.
