Textures abruptly shift to black - GPU Dark Realm - Assistance Required!
Hello everyone, I'm trying to figure out what's going on with my system. It seems like using the GPU at around 70% or more causes crashes in other games, but when I'm just running office or light tasks, nothing happens. Here are my specs: Ryzen 5 5600 B550M, MSI Mortar PALIT GTX 1080Ti, 512GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 16GB RAM. Do you know what might be causing this issue? Is there a solution or should I consider replacing the GPU?
It seems the GPU isn’t loading textures properly and is also experiencing crashes. This suggests a possible hardware problem, such as a VRAM issue, which isn’t surprising for a GPU older than six years. Light tasks shouldn’t cause problems, particularly if it’s a VRAM-related fault, because non-gaming workloads don’t heavily utilize the GPU’s capabilities.
You can verify if another component is causing the issue by testing it separately. Check for similar symptoms on other hardware or reset the system to see if the problem persists. This helps isolate whether the GPU or another part is responsible.
There are utilities such as MemtestG80 designed to examine the GPU's memory, though its last revision was in 2015, which may affect compatibility with GPUs from 2017. Another option is to perform GPU-oriented benchmarks like the free basic version of 3DMark. You might also test pure RAM (e.g., MemTest64) and CPU stress tests (e.g., Prime95's CPU stress). If these succeed, it would help eliminate these parts as the cause. Given that the issue appears only in games, it strongly suggests the GPU is likely involved.
