Hello, I've been experiencing some unusual problems. When the system starts up after a cold boot or overnight reset, the CPU temperature jumps to 50°C instantly. During idle periods, it ranges between 50-60°C on Windows Home. In games like Overwatch or other desktop titles (excluding VR), temperatures rise to around 90°C, causing crashes or blue/black screens. The CPU cooler feels unusually cold to the touch despite multiple replacements—first Corsair 240m, then Nactua D-15, and now a new Nactua D-15. I've run MemTest86 for ten hours with no issues detected in RAM. Current specs: CPU 5950X, GPU EVGA FTW 3090, motherboard Viii Crossfire Black, power supply EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 GT. The first cooler is Corsair 240 AIO, the second Nactua D-15. I received a crash report indicating potential hardware failure, possibly due to overheating, defective parts, memory, or processor. The report includes a screenshot of the test results.
It seemed like a solid setup each time, though I'm still puzzled about this one. I've assembled several PCs before, but this one is giving me trouble.
The NH-D15 should effectively manage CPU cooling. If the heat spreader and contact appear correct and tightening isn't too loose or too tight, a faulty temperature sensor might be the issue. It's rare but possible. Alternatively, poor case airflow could cause temperatures to rise and reduce cooler performance. Could you provide your model and fan setup details?
im using a corsair d400 airflow with 3 intake and 3 exhaust, (6 total case fans) all on turbo settings so they are full tilt when over 60c and temps will still rise and its not on carpet or anything blocking airflow and its pushing a lot of air (i did only have 1 exhaust before and added 2 more and no change)
The case and fan configuration should work fine; the NH-D15 should prevent your CPU from overheating. It seems there might be a faulty temperature sensor on the CPU. Have you looked for any available BIOS updates for the motherboard? If yes, install them as a final step to rule out firmware issues. If problems persist, consider swapping in another CPU or replacing the 5950x entirely.
