Temps de 7800x3D
Hi everyone. I just moved to a 7800x3D and am checking the temperatures. I haven’t noticed it exceeding 61°C during Cinebench R23 tests, while keeping an eye on the system with HW Info. Idle temps stay between 42-44°C based on room temperature. Gaming stays under 52°C. The same pattern shows up in Cyberpunk, Hogwarts, Jedi Survivor. All configurations are pushed to their limits. While testing Cinebench, it caps at around 4.5GHz. I also added a 7900 XTX alongside this upgrade. This is the first time I’ve used a team red GPU—I wonder if AMD Adrenalin caused an issue or if there’s a BIOS PBO problem? I haven’t adjusted anything with that yet. The EK Elite 360 AIO cooler works well with the proper paste from EK. G. Skill Trident RAM is 6000MHz.
The 7800X3D is an impressive chip, standing out among only two AM5 variants that don’t just settle at the minimum temperature. The performance levels here are better than I anticipated, reaching around 75-80°C in R23. Of course, my setup used a dual tower air cooler rather than a full 360mm AIO, but that didn’t affect the results much. My initial guess was it might be missing PBO settings, so I should verify that and let you know how it’s configured. It’s worth noting that EXPO should also be active, though it shouldn’t impact the Cinebench score.
You're using PBO in manual mode with a CO all core set to -15. The performance remains largely unchanged, though R23 scores have improved noticeably—often reaching around 4.8. Temperatures haven't shifted much, which is confusing since you're used to seeing them drop. It seems odd to focus on low temperatures when the results aren't improving as expected. Your recent 5900x might be contributing to this pattern.
It looks like you're expecting a solid 4.8GHz performance from your R23 setup. The two processors you mentioned have distinct thermal characteristics—one is quite hot, while the other manages heat better. The 5900X generates a lot of heat, but it's still within acceptable limits. The 7800X3D uses less power and stays cooler, especially with the AIO setup. Temperatures are slightly low, which might be due to sensor calibration or cooling efficiency. As long as the performance matches expectations, you're good to go. What's your overall R23 rating?
Previously, when I last ran it (around this afternoon), the number was around 17866 or similar. Performance has been excellent, and there have been no problems in that area.
It was a bit lower than my memory of the original machine, around 18500. I also tested it with a -30 CO and various optimization tweaks—clean OS, single pass, real-time priority—which might push the score higher. Also, I've noticed R23 can easily hit scores near 500 points, so the difference could be just a margin of error.
