GPU temperature is at 86°C while CPU stays at idle 96°C right after the game begins. No similar problems occurred with the stock paste. Currently using an MX5 laptop with GPU 66W. Attached a photo.
Issue appears unrelated to the adhesive; probably stems from the cooler's reinstallation process.
It seems the paste problem was resolved by removing a failed batch in January.
The batch was pulled from circulation, so unless it aligns with the details below, it likely arrived in January or the seller ignored the warning and kept it. Based on the info, it probably isn’t a direct paste issue. The text doesn’t strongly suggest an immediate CPU overheating—96°C under heavy use is actually reasonable for a laptop. Could you share your temperatures before applying it? Also, was this photo taken after you applied and removed it? If so, the uneven bottom chip might just be from handling rather than application quality. I’d recommend cleaning it up and retrying if needed. Everyone faces similar hiccups.
It was a second attempt. It's still the same problem. The heat gun isn't sticking anywhere.
The thermal paste became stiff shortly after applying it to the CPU.
Did you update the thermal pads? It would be useful to verify they have the proper thickness, as the appearance suggests the GPU heat sink isn’t properly connecting to the die. The copper on the top heatsink barely touches the paste. This seems like a defective batch. The solution is straightforward—purchase fresh paste.
