I have remounted the cooler 3 times and the same result. All CPU settings are stock, no OC. Any help would be great.
I think you change the thermal paste when reinstalling the cooler. You might adjust the fan curve for more power, but I’m usually taken aback by the outcome since with 8600K at 5GHz and 1.25v, I’d hit a maximum of 80°C on the hottest core using a H212 EVO. How does the airflow work here? Is there a GPU that generates a lot of heat?
Cooler seems slightly off with the IHS, but two cores work just fine.
It seems some of the cooler’s holddown screws aren’t secure enough, there may be an issue with the thermal paste between the IHS and the cooler plate, or the paste beneath the IHS has deteriorated—something that isn’t unexpected given Intel’s past use of subpar TIM for Haswell chips.
Thermal paste, Thermal Grizzly, reapplied each time. The case features two 120mm fans at the front and one at the back. The GPU stays idle while I run CPU stress tests. This CPU performed well before the 212 Evo; it had a Corsair H105 before that. I've used this CPU since 2014 without any temperature issues.
The i3-4170 works with the cooler, though a dual-core setup might not be ideal. I notice a minor gap near the bracket that connects to the cooler. Could this be the issue? It seems quite small, so I’m hesitant. I’d like to repair it since I might sell the PC without a GPU.
