Temperature stayed the same during idle and gaming sessions.
Hey everyone, I just switched my CPU cooler to Dark Rock 4 from Cryorig H7. The problem is my CPU idle temperature is around 60°C, which is pretty high. During games it spikes to 65-70°C. Can you help figure out why and suggest a fix? My specs: i7-8700K, MSI MPG Z390, gaming setup with GTX 1080 Ti, 16GB Trident Z RGB, thermal paste ARCTIC MX-4. Also, I tested Witcher 3 at 3620x2036 Ultra and ran at 3.7GHz. Thanks!
The thermal paste beneath the IHS plate seems ineffective. There’s a known problem with these chips. It’s best to check performance under full load conditions, not just idle or gaming settings where only a few cores are active. Try using 95 first. If it reaches close to 100°C, a solid delimiter can noticeably lower temperatures—if you’re up for the challenge.
Monitor temperatures are fine for Intel 8700K. The problem mostly relates to AMD because of how their temperature calculations function. Just a note. However, HWInfo64 is simply a more user-friendly tool.
The main and socket readings match hwmonitor. (For Intel) Hwinfo serves as a more advanced monitoring tool, that's what I think.
