Temperature cap set to 68°C for Asus Q534UX (Instruction!)
I've owned this laptop for three years now. When I play games, the temperature climbs to 68°C and the performance drops noticeably from 950MHz to 450MHz. I've tried various ways to lower the heat like undervolting or replacing the thermal paste, but results haven't improved much. Recently, I've been exploring BIOS modifications in hopes of raising the temperature limit on my GPU. Could you assist or guide me through removing this temperature cap? Please find my BIOS file attached below if needed. Thanks! TD Q534UXAS203.zip
Laptops feature cooling systems to manage airflow. A 68c rating is relatively low for today’s models, yet it aligns more with an older design. The manufacturer likely imposed this limit for reasons—perhaps to prevent overheating and potential damage. Checking the specifications shows it isn’t a recent release, nor is it old enough to be considered a typical throttle setting, suggesting intentional design choices. It might simply be their way of avoiding the bottom from getting too hot, or it could indicate that warming up causes other parts to fail.
The maximum throttle temperature is usually set by the CPU itself. It’s unclear if this value can be adjusted through the BIOS.
The most effective method to boost performance without resorting to unconventional tricks is increasing the fan speed if feasible, and ensure the laptop is placed on a solid surface.
