The most reliable method to detect thermal problems is to stress the processor rather than running it in idle mode. @YoungBlade highlights that with Ryzen chips, average core temperatures can spike because one core runs at full boost speed for basic operations—a pattern I've observed across many Ryzen models. The temperature sensor is located outside the core, inside the socket, which means it indirectly gauges core temperature as well. Any such indirect measurement tends to be less precise when operating below its intended maximum workload. This applies broadly to most indirect sensors.
