Hello, I recently purchased a computer and am planning an upgrade for gaming. I’m wondering which components would need replacing if I were to get a new motherboard. My current board has an LGA775 CPU socket, but I want one with an LGA1151 socket to accommodate a better CPU. Should I also consider replacing storage, RAM, or the power supply to match the new motherboard? Please let me know what you need.

You can purchase a motherboard that fits an AM4 connector. What you need to consider depends on your existing setup. The storage devices should work, but your power source might be different, and the RAM won’t be compatible with current systems.

If you're not using an SSD currently, I suggest upgrading to one. Yes. The LGA 775 doesn't support DDR4, whereas LGA 1151 does. In theory, the older power supply might have compatible ports, but in practice it's likely outdated and unreliable. Consider replacing the entire system—PC, motherboard, and CPU. RAM will also need swapping. You may require a cooler since your current one might not support LGA 1151. For the drives, choose an SSD instead of keeping your old HDD. The power supply I mentioned should work with a new build, but avoid using components from the previous machine. If you need guidance on selecting parts, share your budget and intended use for the new PC.
