Technical Problems / Oddities and Unexpected Twists
Hey everyone, recently switched to an ROG 5700xt from ASUS. It’s running smoothly overall, but I did run into a few problems before and after installing the card. I was a bit careless, so I used the Windows repair tool to reset the OS and reinstall it, but some issues remain. These Windows glitches are just minor annoyances, though—I’m not getting the performance I expected.
To be clear, I wanted to upgrade my power supply. It’s an older 750-watt bronze PSU from a mining rig (used nonstop for six months) before switching it to an AM3 board for a gaming tower (just for fun) for about three to four years before using it in this build. The fan has started behaving strangely and gets loud before I can hear it anymore. Honestly, I don’t know if it’s still working—this is important for the next point.
So I went with the Corsair RMX White Series (RM850x, 850W) as a replacement. The problems I’m facing are: Wi-Fi drops when waking up from sleep, even though it says it’s connected; the card is an ASUS PCE-AC68 with the latest drivers installed. When I cranked the video settings to high, max, or ultra, the connection would drop. I haven’t seen any issues in newer games like BF5 or COD:War Zone after about twenty minutes of play—graphics stutter only after a while. In League of Legends it was similar, but the system fixed itself quickly. Temperatures look normal, and the fan speed/tuning stays at default (no overclocking). I usually close apps that shouldn’t wake up, but when I sleep, the PC goes through reset steps, the screen goes black, then fans start spinning at full speed and my RGB on the Corsair Hydro flickers.
As a side note, the RGB lights on Crosshair VI and H100i keep shifting colors slightly. I updated the BIOS recently to the latest version, but it’s still not perfect. If you’re thinking about swapping in a Ryzen 9, that would be a big upgrade.
And speaking of software—do you really think these brands (Corsair, ASUS) are all terrible?
[bInitDriver] path set to C:\WINDOWS\temp
GetCurrentDirectory initialized to C:\Program Files\CPUID\CPU-Z
CPU-Z executable found at C:\Program Files\CPUID\CPU-Z\cpuz.exe
Version extraction completed with ID 2 (10.0), SHA2=1
Results indicate no AMD64 or IA64 support, alpha disabled, ARM flag off
System path updated to C:\WINDOWS\temp\cpuz149
Created file cpuz149_x64.sys in the same directory
Driver handling wrapped; potential need for a clean install.
Sure, perhaps. It doesn’t seem like the Sleep problem would stem from the AMD driver or any other factor—this wasn’t an issue before the new card was installed. I’ll keep exploring it further.
Resolved – Update completed. Applied the Win10 May 2020 patch and reset CMOS. System appears operational and functioning normally.
It's an upgrade that refreshed your drivers. The process is more of a temporary fix rather than a permanent solution.
