Hello everyone, I just secured a position as the IT specialist for a small company. They’re planning to expand into a second building and now their satellite office is linked to the main office network through a series of Ethernet cables and switches that stretch across a field. My goal is to set up a site-to-site VPN using openVPN via the fiber line from the satellite office. I’m a bit stuck on configuration, especially choosing reliable and cost-effective hardware. Right now, the most viable options seem to be: using Ubiquiti UDM Pro and AP in the main office, Edgerouter and additional Ubiquiti APs at the satellite, or Ubiquiti Edge routers on both ends with extra APs. I think I grasp the VPN setup but need help picking the best gear to bring everything back into order. Thanks.

With two fiber links (one in each structure), you can set up a suitable VPN tunnel between the two firewalls.

I suggest exploring various approaches to identify the most suitable one. Consider comparing different methods, weighing their pros and cons, and seeking feedback from others. This will help clarify the best path forward.

When both locations support UDM-Pro, setting up a site-to-site VPN becomes straightforward.

Ubiquiti IPSEC performance is poor, causing traffic to be redirected. Heavy network traffic through the VPN may impact users' internet speed at each location, leading to slower connections and possible complaints.
