You're using OCCT and ran an extreme CPU stress test. Check for warnings on both CPU and motherboard (like VRM MOS) flags. Your 5600X has a 65W TDP, and your i7-8700 reaches about 111W even with good cooling. Your VRM reached 85°C before you stopped the test.

On AMD, TDP usually refers to the base power draw without PBO, but skipping PBO means missing out on much of the potential speed. Intel has used TDP as a simple label since the early 8th/9th generation, with increasing numbers until later models faced issues. They once claimed a 65w rating for PL2, but in reality it exceeded 100w during load. More recently, they pushed the envelope, offering unlimited power on some boards.

For instance: 1. The Ryzen 7800x3d claims a 120w TDP from AMD. However, actual performance shows it draws around 90w under heavy use, indicating a significant discrepancy of 30w. That means the TDP value is essentially irrelevant. 2. On the flip side, the Ryzen 7700 in the same line has a listed TDP of 65w, which typically matches its behavior on most motherboards. When power limits are adjusted, it often exceeds 95+ watts, making the TDP more of a guideline than a true metric. 3. The I9 14900k is advertised at 125w TDP. In practice, most boards support higher limits, but even with adequate cooling, it would consume over 300 watts. With recent stability concerns, many have been reduced to 253w PL1 and 253w PL2, still far above the 125w rating. Overall, TDP remains largely meaningless in this context. GPUs add another layer of complexity.

Also consider the Ryzen 9000 release. The power consumption rating started at 65W, but feedback led to a revision to 105W. That value is just a guideline and can be adjusted by whoever sets it.
