Taskbar icons vanishing?
It seems restarting explorer.exe doesn't always solve the issue, which is unusual since the task bar control involves both registry settings and explorer.exe. Unless explorer.exe itself is corrupted—something sfc/DISM might have addressed—I suspect a registry problem. I’m not familiar with the inner details of front-facing Windows 10 apps, so feel free to skip this if someone else has a better idea. I wouldn’t be confident enough to try it myself, but reinstalling Windows would likely clear most registry issues.
However, this wouldn't address the root issue. There seem to be some unusual problems, like my monitor (1440p/165hz) has apps failing to open fully. They always leave extra space around the edges, making it look like the screen is smaller than it actually is. It feels like these issues are connected. Perhaps a repair or a reset would be better than reinstalling?
Consider attempting fixes or resets first. Ensure you create a backup and restore point. What GPU model are you using? Also, think about performing a factory reset of all control panel configurations.
The Gigabyte RTX 3070 Vision OC model comes with a reset option in its control panel. To access it, navigate to the system settings or BIOS menu and look for a reset function or recovery mode.
You're not familiar with Nvidia, but you can search for it online.
You were referring to the Nvidia control panel. I've opened it about 20 times already, and I always reinstall the "clean" version along with every driver since November. It seems this problem also occurs with drivers that didn’t have it before. I’m pretty sure the issue is related to Windows, so a factory reset might help, though I’m not sure if it’s possible without reinstalling everything.
