I accidentally ended the task and the screen went dark (the cursor stayed). After restarting my PC, it still shows black without any cursor. I can access the BIOS but can't do anything else. My new PC is also on, which makes me nervous—can you help?

Press the Windows key followed by 'r', then navigate to the run menu, type 'explorer.exe' and press enter.

in task manager you can just go to file => new task. (this is essentially the 'run' prompt.) then just type explorer.exe and you're good to go.

Unfortunately, nothing is happening, no response at all.

I completed the task repeatedly without causing lasting problems. Are you certain no other actions were taken?

Pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL opens the Task Manager. Which Windows version are you running?

It often resets by itself anyway.

You've rebooted your PC multiple times and it's now functioning normally. However, you didn't see any response when trying commands like Win R or CTRL+ALT+DELETE. It seems you've learned the right approach for future troubleshooting. Thanks for the helpful tips!

You were likely interacting with the application or system settings, which triggered the accidental execution of explorer.exe.

Windows doesn't let you close it directly, so you're probably restarting it. That might be causing some issues.
