My PC behaves strangely when I open the task manager—it suddenly shows 80% usage with no activity, drops to nearly 93% in under an hour, then freezes and forces a hard restart. It keeps cycling through high usage before freezing again.

Have you attempted to use any antivirus or anti-malware software? Are there recent actions you took that could have triggered this issue? It seems like a suspicious process that rapidly consumes system resources.

Here are some alternative phrasings for your request:

- Rephrase the original text using varied language.
- Present the information with a distinct tone or structure.

I haven’t been able to install or execute any antivirus software, even the built-in one. This problem has appeared before on another hard drive. However, this is the first time I’ve noticed memory usage problems. It disappeared for a day, then reappeared after a storm knocked out power, and it vanished again when power was restored. I tried everything, but nothing helped.

The situation depends on whether the issue occurred with the HDD or another storage device. If it happened on a different HDD, the remaining hardware should be identical unless there were specific problems with that drive.

I'm checking if everything in the hardware remains consistent now. This is important because a faulty RAM stick could cause issues if it happened with another drive.

In the last few years, there hasn't been any hardware updates; recent changes occurred only in the past month.

When the problem appears right away after startup, remove a RAM stick and try the other one (and swap the first one out). It seems your 8GB module is likely 2x4GB. If you have an extra 8GB stick, test that too. This method helps quickly check if the RAM is functioning properly. If it’s not, there might be an OS or driver conflict causing constant memory issues until a crash occurs.

I've got 4x4GB RAM sticks and I tried rearranging them. Probably it's just Windows 8.1 causing problems or a virus. I'm waiting about five months for new parts before doing a full OS reinstall, hoping that fixes the issue. I have all 16 GB of RAM, but only 15.8 GB is free even when Task Manager shows 80% usage. Also, I keep seeing a frozen screen with no moving mouse.
