his system shows only two CPU cores, but the manufacturer lists four. that’s a bit concerning.

This indicates a 2C 4T CPU configuration because of the module arrangement, and the actual cores aren't fully utilized. MsConfig displays logical cores or threads, not the physical CPU cores.

According to the amds website, 4C/4T indicates four physical cores available for use.

2 cores use an FPU together. This means it's limited by hardware SMT, not achieved through software instructions or other methods. That's why AMD won the lawsuit. Originally, X86 didn't include an FPU, but it was still considered an X86 core by definition.
