I don't do AAA games, as I am strictly a WoW player, but I have seen complaints, elsewhere, of games getting more demanding, but visually they haven't really improved much in recent years. If Starfield's ugly NPC's are anything to go by, they might be onto something.
😆
I do think developers have gotten lazy. Console ports that come out as unoptimized trash, for instance. IMO, there's little excuse for such things, with current gen consoles being equipped with what is basically a Ryzen APU with better graphics.

Yeah, but most years or so there were significant improvements in graphics and gameplay features during the 80s and 90s.
Now we see higher resolutions, better textures, or even advanced physics like hair movement that aren't directly tied to gameplay. What stands out is how impressive some games looked without needing top-tier equipment.
But 30 FPS at 1080p upscaled on modern hardware feels a bit excessive. (I remember back then, 30 FPS was really cool)

Choose simply by what you spend. There are plenty of indie titles that offer better graphics and storytelling at a fraction of the cost. I know some people might feel pressure to keep up with trends, but skipping *Yet Another Star Wars* won’t really hurt your life much unless you’re not careful.

I fully support it 110%. I bought one game in the past 2-3 years that wasn't severely broken or overly buggy, at least not to the point of being unusable. It was Baldur's Gate 3, and I think it was more about my current hardware and the wide range of needs across different games from minimum to maximum.

I also own a few Star Wars titles, but I tend to wait until they are well-developed and essentially free before purchasing. I haven't bought any games in that series yet. The latest one I have (the title is hard to remember) begins with you starting in the "boneyard" as a scavenger. It hasn't been much of an experience, even compared to Battlefront 2.

By then the game already has the reputation it does and is often too late. They still haven't even fixed Jedi Survivor.
And this, this is a sentiment I 100% agree with. By going what Eximo said, they shooting themselves in the foot making a demanding bug ridden title not for the masses based on HW requirements alone.
Id say screw them too and future products. I have no problem blackballing a company based on their actions. Will I potentially miss some goodies? Yeah but as someone else said above, vote with your wallet and stick to it.
One should always buy based on what you get today, not the promises of tomorrow because tomorrow may never come. If a studio wants to make a game that just works they can, they need to just stop rushing.
Look at (RIP) HiFiRush whether it's your style or game or not, it's polished, runs on anything even hopes and dreams, looks great, plays great AND NOBODY knew it was coming. Proof that rushing and setting expectations with early previews or cinematic trailers months or years in advance is not the way.

Because studios are over-reliant on a few massive hits per year which suck in tons of development resources. This also has the side effect of studios playing *safe* and refusing to innovate, for fear of making something no one wants.
There's a reason why its the independent studios making the good stuff.

I agree. The area expanded while becoming more focused. More games, various platforms, and heightened competition for people's spending power are increasing the scope. Those days when you could craft a completely original idea are gone. The selection of viable projects has become tighter. This explains why many games now depend on costly narratives, celebrity endorsements, and well-known franchises such as Star Wars. They are opting for safer choices while still attempting to develop new IPs and popular titles—something financial stakeholders prefer not to see. Small-scale titles keep things enjoyable by introducing fresh mechanics, though they usually don’t generate significant revenue. Only the occasional rare success stands out, but these wins tend to be short-lived.

Do you recall the challenging start of the CD-ROM Era when everyone was excited about "OH WOW FMV" and numerous point-and-click "Interactive Movies" released? High-profile actors, impressive scores, but weak gameplay. The only ones who seemed to understand were Wing Commander III and 7th Guest...

I remember this one too. Privateer 2 stands out because of the random actors who appear (funny moments on YouTube if you enjoy the quirks without the game's flaws). It offered real video footage instead of CGI effects. Watching an actor's 3D model up close is quite unusual. These games weren't my choice due to FMV or actors; I was looking for a solid voice performance. Even minor celebrities occasionally pop in. The God of War series comes to mind, as well as the Command & Conquer lineup.
