Talk about unveiling the upcoming Doom title "DOOM: The Dark Ages" at the Xbox Games Showcase!
Ancient Gods didn't meet my expectations. The series still had room for a proper third part, especially after two quick and disjointed DLCs that seemed like a hurried attempt to wrap up everything.
I haven't even started the first AG DLC yet. It drops you into a scenario where you already have all weapons, mods, and skills unlocked, but then suddenly face waves of tough enemies one after another. There are also some tricky platforming sections that demand precise timing for long jumps.
When other titles launched, and I had a small NVMe drive available, I put the game save aside and removed it.
These two DLCs appear to have been developed quickly once the excitement around Doom Eternal began to rise, but they didn’t manage to attract the gaming audience effectively. They are extremely challenging to surpass or finish, especially for my level. I’ve seen many walkthroughs and think the player is often overwhelmed by too many enemies in certain levels, making the gameplay feel unbalanced. A proper third installment would be the forthcoming ‘DOOM: The Dark Ages’ title.
It's hard to deny the feeling that Ancient Gods marks the final chapter for the series.
Bethesda and Microsoft have confirmed DOOM: The Dark Ages. It will launch on PC in 2025, utilizing the newest iteration of the id Tech Engine. This game serves as a single-player action FPS that acts as a prequel to the popular DOOM titles, continuing the legacy of the DOOM Slayer.
