Talk about my issue! My computer isn't running DirectX9 games properly.
The system features an AMD Ryzen 7 3600U processor, an integrated AMD RX Vega 10 graphics card, 8GB of RAM. When launching a game like Europa Universalis IV, the machine immediately begins utilizing its CPU for loading, reaching full capacity. Once inside the game, performance remains at 100%, and after starting play, the CPU enters deep power-down mode, remaining idle. It consumes approximately 15% of CPU resources, with power draw around 5 Watts or less. Clock speeds hover near 1.4GHz, while effective frequencies range between 300-800MHz. Temperatures stay low—around 60°C when idle, dropping to about 45°C during use. The GPU performs optimally given the available resources and normal RAM allocation. This behavior is specific to DX9 titles, especially Paradox DX9 games. I also experienced the same problem with HOI4 until a factory reset resolved it. After purchasing EU4, the issue persisted. I’ve tried all online solutions, consulted the Steam community, and checked Paradox forums for similar reports. No resolution has been found yet. Any assistance would be highly valued.
I'm not sure if this will solve your problem with the laptop shutting down, but dx9 games require dx9 to function. It's missing from the latest dx versions, so you'll need to download the dx9 runtime separately. You might assume the CPU enters a deep power-down because these older games don't use much processing power, which could cause it to start and then fail to display properly.
I had the installation prior to the factory reset, but it didn't make a difference; I just re-downloaded it again as usual and still saw no changes.
Is there a malware scan running on your system? The exact model of your laptop is unclear, and it sounds like the system is throttling performance.
You might need to utilize the older Adrenalin drivers from 2020 to 2022 or enable AMD’s DX9 compatibility mode using DXVK.
A factory reset was performed yesterday, confirming it's not malware. I've run multiple scans as well. The Asus Vivobook M509DA isn't experiencing power throttling; it stays under 60°C, and during gameplay it rarely goes above 70°C.
I am using the 2025 Adrenalin drivers.
I have already tried what the video suggested, but it didn't make a difference.
