I really like this antivirus too! But it doesn’t seem to function well on my Windows 8.1 system, and there aren’t any new torrented updates available. So I switched to AVG Antivirus 2014 (the paid version). Speaking of things, I came across a virus that could wipe all your files from the main hard drive just by double-clicking it—wow, that’s quite alarming! PS: Torrenting was legal in my country until two days ago.

I installed Norton after getting it for free from my ISP. I quickly noticed how terrible it was. Personally, I stick to Microsoft Security Essentials for real-time protection and Malwarebytes for virus scanning and removal.

Your laptop with Windows 8.1 appears to be functioning well. Is it using the latest version of Norton 360?

I don't have a direct link to the updated release, but you can check the official website or contact support for the latest version.

It's listed on the site. You might want to refresh Norton. That should fix it. If that doesn't help, enter your key and switch to the updated Norton 360.

I suspect you have miner malware on your system. It's using your computer to mine bitcoins for another person. Possibly a Trojan was also involved in some covert activities. As an average volunteer, I have a bias here. I suggest using AVG.

Thank you for the details. I'm trying to avoid similar issues now. Previously, I relied on Norton 360, but I moved to AVG since it didn't perform unnecessary background scans or interrupt gameplay with alerts.

I assume you're referring to unauthorized downloading of files via torrents. Torrenting is essentially a method of peer-to-peer file sharing, and some individuals use it to share content without permission.

Yeah, it was about piracy, but there was a legal battle between the EU and the Netherlands that spanned several years. Recently, the European Court of Justice decided against making piracy illegal. Before that, purchasing storage devices or electronics usually came with extra fees—5 to 15 euros—to account for potential losses from piracy.
