I found a laptops vs desktops talk in the comments of a YouTube video. One person says they managed to raise their memory clock to 4200MHz on a mobile GTX1050. Those speeds are impressive for a Lenovo Legion series laptop, but I’ve only seen the older Y50 with a GTX860. I’m confused about how they achieved such a high figure—4200MHz is extremely high for an actual memory clock, and it’s lower than what’s officially stated, so maybe he’s exaggerating. Also, he claims to have pushed the 1050 to around 600MHz above its boost clock, with a maximum GPU temperature of 70°C. Is that realistic?

it varies based on the software used
technically 1750mhz should be the default for 1050 (actual frequency)
he increased it to 2100mhz
software can indicate it as ddr or gddr5... that shouldn't really affect things
for ddr it's 2x effective speed (more bits per clock cycle)
for gddr5 it's 4x effective speed (even more bits per clock cycle)
the reported speed shouldn't matter, as long the RAM bandwidth is accurately reported
