Talk about a transformation! My 7950x3d has turned into a cat!
On the last Thursday, I sold my Ryzen 9 7950X3D on Xianyu, the Chinese version of eBay where second-hand items are traded. I purchased this processor about six months ago to ease my mood after my ex-girlfriend's mother made us part ways. After a few weeks, I felt a bit better and decided to part with it. While I was leaving the door open for the postman, a stray cat wandered into my room. It was clearly unwell—coughing, sneezing, and having a runny nose. I offered it some unsalted sausage and water, but it refused to eat or drink, just meowing at me. It didn’t seem afraid of me and kept rubbing against my hand.
I quickly realized it needed help, as if it understood it would die without assistance. I placed it in a cardboard box, left its head exposed, and tied the box with string. Since the nearest pet hospital was a 20-minute walk away, I carried it on my electric bike. But after moving just 20 meters, it slipped out of the box and vanished from view, which was frustrating. I thought it was a mistake to ignore help, so I returned home.
When I got back, I found it still in my room. I tried pushing it out several times, but it kept coming back. Eventually, I locked the door after one final push. I assumed it would look for help elsewhere, but it continued meowing and gently nudging the door. Tears came to my eyes as I remembered being rejected by my ex’s mother because I couldn’t afford a Shanghai apartment. Both the cat and I felt like abandoned animals, so I decided to save and adopt it. I brought it back into my ITX case bag, sealed it tightly this time, and headed straight to the hospital. Maybe the enclosed space made it feel safe—it stayed calm, only meowing twice.
At the clinic, the vet said it was about a year old but severely dehydrated from mouth inflammation, requiring an IV drip. By the time the drip started, it was 11 p.m., so I went home to sleep.
Over the next three days, I visited twice daily. Each time, it would immediately start meowing and nuzzle my hand. Though never aggressive, it accidentally scratched me once. After that, I scolded it sternly—it never hurt me again!
By Monday, after five days of treatment, it had recovered. I adopted it, naming it DanJuan (meaning "egg roll" in Chinese, referencing its cream-orange fur) and giving it the nickname "3D" – a reference to the Ryzen 9 7950X3D I sold. Surprisingly, the medical costs matched the value of the CPU. Also, "3D" sounds like "third brother" in Chinese (三弟), highlighting its place in my family.
Danjuan displays no desire to be mischievous except when sitting on the case to sense the AIO's fan moving right after it had a bowel movement.
The mischief will arrive eventually.
I usually have a cat near the exhaust of my PC, which impacts how well my cooling system works. I avoid making custom loops on my own machines because two of my black cats often argue over the space, and I want them to last.
