System/hardware issue
System/hardware issue
The situation has been quite unusual. About six months ago, I installed my second PC, which initially faced some challenges during setup but eventually ran smoothly afterward. The system specifications are as follows:
Motherboard: AORUS B550 ELITE AX V2
RAM: 2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
CPU: AMD 5700G with stock cooler
Power Supply: Corsair RM750
GPU: Radeon 6700XT
Storage: 2 x 1TB generic SSDs
Recently, however, the system has started to power on randomly. There appears to be a problem where certain USB ports work intermittently, while others remain inactive. This inconsistency is noticeable when using my back-lit accessories; if they don’t light up, the PC fails to boot. When it does start up, it boots without issues for now, but the screen goes dark, and I’m forced to shut it down completely via the front or rear power buttons. Despite this, the system remains on, with the CPU and fan still active, yet the display disappears entirely. I suspect the issue might be related to the RAM, GPU, or CPU itself.
I’ve replaced the CPU and checked the RAM placement—moving the GPU into both the main PCIe slot and one secondary slot didn’t resolve the problem. The motherboard still shows an orange glow, suggesting a potential fault. After reconnecting all cables, the issue persists, with the motherboard still displaying the warning light.
I’ve also checked the CMOS battery, but it hasn’t helped. It seems the problem could be either with the main motherboard or the GPU. I’m considering replacement parts, but I’d rather not end up buying a completely new PC just to find out what’s wrong.
This is definitely a rare situation, and I’m hoping for a positive outcome.
Through a lot of experimentation, I've concluded it's 90% related to the GPU.
I'm keeping a small buffer for uncertainty since it's connected through the PSU, but until I get a new GPU and test it, I can't eliminate that chance.
This isn't a CPU, memory, or RAM problem at all.
Maybe recent updates affected the performance. Consider reinstalling the graphics drivers or restoring your PC to its previous state using system restore.
