Hey everyone.
It's been a while since my last upgrade. Prices really jumped during the pandemic.

Current configuration:
Phanteks P400 with P400A front panel (intake and exhaust vents from P400, intake 1 x 120 side, custom installation in plastic panel, 2x 140 front, exhaust 2x 120 rear)
MSI B550 Gaming Edge WIFI
Ryzen 3600X running 4.4 all cores at 1.085v. (still unsure how I clocked it, but it reaches 4.650 on all cores stable at factory voltage during overclock tests)

Be Quiet Dark Rock 2 TF
Crucial ballistix 2 x 8gb 3600 DDR4 at 3800 MHz
Gigabyte Gaming OC 5600 XT with updated BIOS
Samsung 500GB PM961 NVMe x4 drive
Kingston 500GB SATA 6 Gb/s drive
Super Flower Leadex Gold 650W

I recently purchased a Crucial P3 Plus SSD 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen4
Looking for another pair of 2x8GB ballistix 3600

My gaming setup is mostly RPGs, with Starfield and Baulders Gate on my wishlist. The system is showing signs of age, but I still enjoy replays—especially in the DA and ME series, plus Deus Ex, which I play a lot.

The main question is about CPU and GPU pairing:
Budget-wise, I’m considering the RX 6750 XT for £300, but should I opt for the 7700 XT for £360 (seems like a good deal)? I can also get a 7800 XT for £430, though it feels expensive. If I could save £100, that would make sense, but the market price is high. I’d rather spend an extra £50 and get something new. If it saved me £100, I’d be happy.

If I stretch my budget for a newer CPU, these options offer a balanced cost. Right now, I prefer sticking with GPU performance and the 7700 XT looks like a solid choice.

Price comparisons:
- RX 6750 XT + RX7800 XT £450
- RX 5600 XT + RX7700 XT £460
- RX 5700X3D + RX 6750 XT £480

Not an AMD enthusiast in the traditional sense, but when it comes to value for money, that’s what I choose. Back then, Intel and Nvidia were the best options.

The 4060 Ti is more expensive than the 7700 XT, while the 4070 is pricier than the 7800 XT.

Open to suggestions—both green and red options welcome.

Monitor: MSI Optix G24 1080 at 75Hz refresh. Last upgrade on this platform. No plans for a monitor replacement since this one still works fine.

Thanks!

R7-5700X plus RX 7700XT seems to be your best option. It adds 15 pounds and includes two extra CPU cores. However, this is the final CPU upgrade point for this setup. You might want to extend the R7-5700X3D and the 7700XT.

RPG games usually follow a single-threaded approach. Boost the CPU first and observe the outcome. Test this basic method: Execute your games while reducing resolution and visual effects. This can slightly strain the graphics card. An increase in FPS suggests your CPU is capable of handling better graphics settings. If FPS remains unchanged, your CPU might be the limiting factor. A 5800X would provide a solid improvement with minimal effort. Ryzen has strict requirements for RAM compatibility. Incompatible RAM can cause issues. If you notice recurring problems with Ryzen on these forums, it’s likely related to RAM. Consider swapping your current 2 x 8GB RAM for a 2 x 16GB kit if needed. Keep the existing RAM as a backup or sell it. Check that the new RAM model is listed in your motherboard’s RAM specifications and confirmed by the manufacturer’s app. Once that’s verified, you can explore graphics upgrades. Otherwise, you might not achieve the expected performance boost. For reference, Tom’s GPU hierarchy chart is available here: I recommend a 7600XT or higher for better results.

All right everyone. I placed an order for a RX 7700 XT Sapphire Pulse, since Amazon lists them at £340.
As mentioned before, it seems like the final CPU upgrade for this motherboard, so I'll hold off until Black Friday and see if I can get a 5700x3d or compare it with the 5500x3d. Considering that, I'm also going to skip the RAM purchase for now. The same applies—hopefully I'll find a good deal on Black Friday, and it looks like the x3d CPU works well even with lower spec RAM (like not paying extra for 3800 C16 versus 3200 C16).

Thanks.

It's great, even with your existing CPU, this RX 7700 XT will still offer solid performance improvements. Once you upgrade to the 5700X3D and add more RAM, it should perform well for several more years.
