You're thinking about upgrading your setup with modern components while preserving some legacy hardware. Whether your Windows 7 version remains usable depends on the specific OEM edition and whether it supports SSDs. Check your Windows 7 version details—some editions are backward compatible with newer drives, while others aren't. If you plan to clone your OS onto an SSD, ensure your Windows 7 edition can be installed there. If you're unsure, consider testing a small installation first to confirm compatibility.

Avoid transferring your old operating system to the new SSD. Perform a fresh installation using your existing OS. It should function properly without needing a replacement OS.

As you are replacing the motherboard i believe you will have to reinstall, if there is a way to use it across hardware like that i don't know it.

Yes, you can clone your files from the old HDD to the new SSD after a fresh OS installation.

OEM components are either branded (like Dell, HP, etc., indicated on the label) or non-branded. The latter can be sold as retail items, while the former are not valid with different motherboards.
