System unexpectedly powering off without warning.
Hello everyone, I’m facing a bit of a problem. My PC has been running for a while now, and I recently swapped in a new drive. After setting up Windows on the new storage, it sometimes powers off unexpectedly, even during startup, and won’t come back on until I fully unplug the power supply. I’ve tried removing other drives, resetting CMOS, reinstalling Windows, repositioning RAM and GPU, and even using just the new drive, but the issue persists. For context, I recently replaced an old SSD that was completely unused at 100%. I suspect the power supply might be failing, though I want to confirm before replacing it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Specs: Motherboard ROG Strix B-550F (Bios 3607), Windows 11 64-bit, CPU Ryzen 9 5900X, GPU Gigabyte RTX 4070, RAM G Skill Trident 32GB DDR4 3600MHz, PSU Thermaltake Smart RGB 750W (80+ Bronze), drives include WD Black SN770 2TB WDS500G3X0C and Samsung 870 QVO 1TB.
In such situations, you can start by checking the spare components. If you lack them, consider asking a friend to lend their PC for swapping parts, beginning with the power supply. Our forum's capabilities are limited in this regard. You may use any warranty available for questionable components, provided the power supply is willing. If you can afford a visit to a repair shop, do so if troubleshooting isn't feasible on your own or with a friend.
