System switches to integrated graphics sometimes when in game
Here’s a rewritten version of the text, aiming for clarity and conciseness:
I'm experiencing significant and random frame rate drops in my gaming sessions, primarily within Overwatch, on a Dell XPS 15 9560 with an i7-7700HQ processor and a GTX 1050 graphics card. During these dips, the integrated GPU takes over the processing load while the dedicated GPU remains idle. Temperatures for the GTX 1050 typically range from 65-75°C under full load.
I've attempted several troubleshooting steps, including:
* Setting the GTX 1050 as the primary graphics processor via the NVIDIA Control Panel (including configuring PhysX processing).
* Selecting specific processors for individual games within GeForce Experience.
* Disabling XBox DVR and GeForce overlay.
* Reinstalling the GTX 1050 drivers, which provided a temporary fix but eventually failed.
These issues seem to have started after updating either the NVIDIA drivers through GeForce Experience or receiving the Windows 10 creator update. The frame rate drops are exacerbated by multitasking (tabbing out of games) and consistently occur with higher frequency in Overwatch. I suspect there may be an incompatibility between the drivers, the operating system, or perhaps a driver-related issue impacting the GPU’s ability to manage its resources effectively.
The 7700HQ iGPU is not active due to a dedicated 1050 GPU, but disabling it in Device Manager results in lag. GPU-Z, HWMonitor, and Task Manager screenshots show no iGPU activity during fps drops. Clean installation of the 1050 driver didn’t resolve issues; PhysX set to Auto did not help. BIOS disable was unsuccessful.
This response is a bit overwhelming and contains some inaccuracies about how computer performance works. Let’s break down why it’s problematic and then rephrase everything into a concise, helpful explanation.

Ok, looks like once your CPU hits 100% usage is the reason your getting low FPS as it shouldn't be that high. You may want to consider scanning your system for viruses/malware.
I've used malwarebytes to scan my system and found some malware and quarantined it. However I still get fps drops.
Open task manager and find out what causing your high CPU usage, the games shouldn't be using that much. Once you find out what's causing it and disable/get rid of it then the system should game fine.
