System stopped unexpectedly showing nothing.
Build Motherboard: B650 Tomahawk CPU: 7800x3d (installed two weeks prior) GPU: 7800XT case: 4000D airflow memory: Gskill 5600 (probably) I’ve been using this PC smoothly for a few months. Around two weeks ago I updated the BIOS and added the 7800x3d. During several CPU tests there were no problems in the past two weeks. A few days back I saw the RAM running at 4800 instead of the 5600 rating. After updating the BIOS this caused the system to crash about 30 minutes into a game, showing a black screen that won’t load. The motherboard display still shows an orange light on the RAM and red on the CPU. I took out the GPU and connected directly to the CPU for testing, removed the SSDs, bought new RAM and reset the motherboard battery repeatedly without success. I also flashed the BIOS to the latest beta version from MSI. I reinserted the CPU and checked for bent pins—nothing obvious. Temperatures stayed within a safe range during 30-minute CPU tests, never exceeding 84°C. What should I do next? I suspect a problem with the CPU or motherboard. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Please don’t overdo it.
Thanks for your guidance. I refreshed the bios before setting up the 7800x3d. After it ceased posting, I pushed the latest beta version as a final attempt. I bought fresh 6,000-core Corsair RAM today and removed bios without waiting. Tried installing in several slots with one new stick of RAM.
It seems the 7800x3d malfunctioned. The BIOS was sent to AMD for a return. I replaced it with a 7600x, which is now working properly.
