System starts up properly yet the screen remains off.
Hello. I faced an unusual issue with my computer recently. It’s been four years since everything ran smoothly. When I powered it on, the screen went black. The motherboard showed some LED indicators suggesting a problem, but none lit up. The system booted, yet the display remained off. After disconnecting all components and restarting, nothing changed. I removed the RAM and tried activating it one at a time, still without any output. Clearing the CMOS didn’t help either; the boot indicator appeared, but no screen appeared. I recalled that clearing CMOS requires pressing F1, so I did it and the boot light turned off. After about ten minutes, I pressed the power button, but instead of shutting down immediately, I had to keep it pressed to turn it off. I even disconnected both the SSD and HDD and attempted to restart, but the screen stayed dark. I suspect the graphics card might be dead, though it shouldn’t be stuck at the VGA output if it was truly inactive. Since I don’t have an integrated GPU, I can’t test it without a dedicated one. Here are my specs: Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX II CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X RAM: 16GB HyperX Fury Black DDR4 3200MHZ GPU: XFX GTS AMD RX580 8GB SSD: 120GB SATA SSD 1TB XPG SX6000 HDD: 2TB Seagate BarraCuda PSU: 650W Thermaltake RGB OS: Windows 11 x64 BIOS. I haven’t modified the BIOS yet, so it’s still the default from the box. Thanks for reading and help is appreciated. Edited January 24, 2024 by terpeasergiu
Check GPU functionality on a different machine if possible, to verify performance.
I attempted to connect it to my TV but got nothing. I also tried a VGA monitor without success. The issue might be with the GPU. I updated my post to mention that.
