Hello, after changing the thermal paste on my CPU, I assumed everything was set correctly. The fans began spinning, but neither the video nor the PC posted. The CPU light stayed green and there were no audible beeps. Sometimes it restarts within a few seconds, only when the system powers on. I’ve tried almost everything possible—replacing RAM, CPU, testing different cables for my monitors, checking all connections, swapping the CMOS battery, even resetting BIOS—but still couldn’t get it to post. My specs are: Intel i5-4690k GPU GeForce GTX 1060 6GB RAM 16GB DDR3 MOTHERBOARD Asus H97M-E
Did you notice any thermal paste spills on the board? If it entered a slot meant for a component, it might affect connections. Also, inspect power cables and reposition the memory and GPU, making sure all slots are fully seated. I experienced a similar problem during startup—turns out it was RAM not approved by the board maker. For an older system that’s been working well, it seems the GPU connection on the motherboard could be the issue, maybe even a failing DIMM.
Check each stick individually by connecting them one at a time to identify any defective unit.
