System shutting down unexpectedly during use or idle. No error display.
Hello, my PC was built about three years ago. After installing House Flipper 2, it began restarting unexpectedly. I played Cyberpunk, Starfield, and other titles at full performance without any issues until this problem occurred. Crysis also ran smoothly. After cleaning, replacing the thermal paste, and rebuilding the system, Windows 11 was installed and everything worked fine. It randomly restarts regardless of what I was doing—whether playing League of Legends, Fortnite, House Flipper, editing photos, or streaming on Twitch. The machine would shut down completely before turning back on. It doesn’t show any BSOD or crashes initially. At first, I thought the CPU speed was too high (around 4.3), so I set it to 3.9, but the issue persisted. I updated the BIOS and even tried enabling XMP profiles in BIOS, yet it still restarts. I’ve attached the error details from Event Viewer. I just need to get home and play a bit—it’s not too much of a request.
It seems like the power supply might be the main concern here. If you don’t have another PSU, do you also have a different graphics card? My thought is it could be your PSU, but the GPU is probably contributing too. The spikes from 3000-series cards can reach up to 700-800 watts for a brief moment. I’m leaning toward that. I also have a system with a 3090 that’s been acting up, usually only at startup.
I haven't heard anything before, mainly because I'm using headphones. I'm going to avoid them to improve my listening. Should I consider a different power supply unit? What wattage would be appropriate if the GPU is handling heavy tasks?
Assuming the issue lies with the power supply, it's not just about the wattage—delivering most of its output at 12V is crucial. You need a supply that reacts quickly to sudden loads. I’m uncertain about the C650’s performance right now, so I can’t evaluate it. @Volicius What’s the model number on your power supply? The full unit number. Edited February 6, 2024 by Godlygamer23
I generally prefer a solid 100 to 200W buffer. I'm testing setups with an 850W power source.
Looking for a solid power supply to match the 3060? You’ll want something reliable and capable of handling its power demands.
