For understanding, "restarting" here means fully shutting down (off all components) and then turning it back on automatically. No BSODs, no warnings, no logs are displayed. My PC has been behaving oddly recently, especially during GPU-heavy activities like gaming and upscaling 4K video with high-quality scalers (SSIM). I suspect XMP settings might be the culprit—I noticed five restarts in FurMark when it was enabled, none when disabled after ten trials. However, the issue seems sporadic and could just be random. Recently, I cleaned up my GPU and power connectors, and the problem stopped until I ran a test on FurMark. I’ve used this configuration for at least four years, mostly with XMP active. The CPU and motherboard I own since mid-2017. This is the first time I’ve encountered something like this. The only change was replacing both GPU fans a month ago, but the problem started just a few days back. Temperatures look normal; the GPU reaches about 65°C max. The CPU stays around 80°C during intensive Prime95 runs (though it will need re-pasting soon). MemTest86 showed no errors. I’ve updated GPU drivers to more stable versions. Multiple CPU stress tests and benchmarks passed without issues—crashing only when the CPU is idle. Windows 10 22H2 CPU: 7700K @ 4.2GHz (original), GPU: EVGA Black 2080 RAM: G.Skill RipJaws V 3200Mhz (2133Mhz without XMP) PSU: Corsair RM750x 750W Motherboard: MSI Z270 SLI Plus, BIOS up-to-date. What might be going wrong? CPU or motherboard aging? PSU performance declining? I’m considering using a multimeter to check the PSU, but no one I know has that tool. No, it doesn't necessarily mean a blue screen of death. Restart can refer to various actions like resetting a system, closing and reopening an application, or rebooting the computer. The context determines what you mean.

It simply shuts down and restarts without any issues. No BSOD displayed, no entries in the event logs, and no checks during startup. I’ll include this in the post, sorry about it.

That's intriguing. Do you have another machine available? If so, we can exchange components from this setup to check if a specific part is the issue.

Turn off all shortcuts, then DDU, update the driver, and check the results.

I should have tried to do it, right? I'm going to do it quickly.

Consider focusing on a single component to identify the crash point.

In the last week I experienced system freezes, lockups and shutdowns. The Event Viewer logs pointed me to the Nvidia driver issue. I detailed this in my most recent status update. To resolve it, I used DDU from Safemode and reinstalled the latest drivers.

It only fails when XMP is active and you run a GPU stress test or while gaming. After posting this, I ran several additional tests without any issues.
