System shuts down unexpectedly while playing, no alerts provided.
A week ago during a playthrough on Steam, my PC shut down unexpectedly while testing a new Gundam game. Initially, I assumed it was caused by outdated drivers, so I updated them all. For a few days there were no issues, but then during my last two Overwatch matches, the PC would power off halfway through. I’m still using Windows 10, and although my system is quite old (built in 2014 with most parts from 2012), I haven’t faced such problems until recently. The case dust has been cleared this week. I plan to replace the machine soon, aiming for a five-month wait before the new GPU arrives. I’m hoping to swap it out in October as a birthday gift. How might I resolve this power-off issue while gaming? Could it relate to a faulty power supply? Might the battery backup from 2015 be contributing to unstable power delivery during intense use? Is there a possibility of an outdated BIOS causing this problem?
Please specify the power supply unit you're interested in, along with its age and the motherboard model.
Components listed below. I've also updated the original entry for clarity.
Power supply: Rosewill Bronze series 1000 watt active PFC power supply
Memory: Hyper X Fury 16GB (2x8GB) 240 pin DDR3 SDRAM
CPU: AMD FX 8350 Eight Core Processor at 4 GHz
Motherboard: ASUS M5A99FX PRO AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB 950 SATA 6BS/s
GPU: ASUS ROG GeForce Strix 1070 8GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0
Cooler: Corsair Hydro Sries H115i Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler 280mm CW-9060027-WW
Slightly above typical levels. Maintained around 43°C during idle. Didn’t notice much change initially, but I’ll run an under-load test while gaming to check the impact.
I swapped the CPU cooler around 4 years ago (August 2nd, 2018).
