System shuts down during gameplay
I5 6600k with 3.5ghz Radeon R9 390, 32gb RAM, 1000w PSU MSI z170a, gaming on Windows 10. It’s an older setup. I’m considering upgrades but unsure where to start. I’m experiencing frequent restarts during games like PUBG, DayZ, and Diablo 4, plus a strange pop-like noise when connecting the power cord. The noise gets louder while gaming. Temperatures are normal, and games run smoothly otherwise. I thought removing the GPU and reinserting it fixed things, but it came back after a few weeks. Any advice? After replacing the PSU and doing stress tests, everything seems quiet and stable.
Yes, you can easily replace it with another PSU. There are many YouTube tutorials available to guide you through the process.
I’ll attempt a change tonight. I still possess the PSU from my previous computer. My PC resides in my basement, which stays quite cool.
I’d probably start with the PSU, though it could be another component causing the issue. I’d still test a different PSU just in case, remembering it’s not guaranteed to be the problem.
Changing the power supply seemed to resolve the problem initially, but it reoccurred during gaming today. Considering an AMD RX580 might help, since it’s affordable and you’re unable to replace the entire setup right now. This could be a reasonable next move.
