Hi,
I've been dealing with this problem for a few years now and after trying my best, I'm ready to ask for your expert help.

Details:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT
Motherboard: ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO
Memory: 4 x 8 GB G.SKILL F4-3200C14-8GTZR
Power Supply: Corsair RM850i
Connected devices: 48" LG OLED48CX6LB TV (4K), 2 x ASUS VG248 monitors at 1980x1080 @ 144Hz.

The problem began shortly after building the system a couple of years ago, when I would occasionally experience shutdowns while playing games in 4K. At first, I thought it might be related to the power supply, so I upgraded from 450W to the current 850W. The issue persisted.

I also tried running games at 1440p with reduced graphics settings, which helped about 90% of the time but still caused shutdowns when I died or encountered cut scenes.

Recently, I found a new game and installed it with default settings (4K). Within roughly 3 minutes, the system shut down again. That’s when I realized I needed a solution.

I updated my BIOS to the latest ASUS version (4805), updated Radeon drivers to 24.8.1, and then tried unplugging both monitors to free up bandwidth for the main display. This didn’t resolve the problem. I also reversed the order—unplugged the TV and used the two monitors—which still led to crashes.

I ran HWMonitor and GPU-Z on the secondary monitor while experiencing crashes, hoping to detect spikes or high values. The numbers weren’t alarming, but I thought it might help others review.

What I’m seeking is confirmation that the power supply isn’t providing enough power for the GPU, though according to the specs, an 850W should be adequate.

I really value any advice or steps you could suggest. Ideally, I’d like a 1000W unit to test, but I don’t want to spend money just to confirm it’s not the issue.

I was hoping removing the 4K option would have fixed it, but now I’m confused about what exactly is causing the shutdowns.

The games force the CPU and GPU to operate more intensely, which may lead to overheating. Keep an eye on the CPU and GPU temperatures during gameplay, and you'll notice the issue as they increase.

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't noticed the Reliability History monitor until I reviewed the events closely. In short, I solved the problem on my own today! After testing the crashed application, I didn’t see any logs, so I checked the default FAQ and found a clear solution: clean your PC from dust. I tried this and it didn’t help. However, when I opened my case and examined it more closely, I realized my graphics card was only connected via one cable to the PSU using an 8-pin PCIe connection, while another cable had an 8-pin configuration. I found a spare PCIe cable with the correct setup and replaced the existing one. It worked! I also found a picture of the cable here: https://imgur.com/a/pcie. View: https://imgur.com/gallery/pcie-cable-UAKYGoK. After restarting the PC, the game no longer crashed. I’ll test Wow and other games I’ve seen crash before to confirm, but I’m confident this was the root cause. Hope this helps newer graphics cards that tend to be power-hungry!
