It was definitely a fortunate coincidence. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but an old Dell Dimension I owned a while ago decided to shut down dramatically. One of the hard drives was banging against its case. It showed signs of an impending power supply issue in the days before, plus the CPU cooling fins looked worn from years of dust, you know? Overheating CPUs don't usually cause hard drives to stop working. Still, a power supply failure could potentially damage the motherboard if it's severe enough.
