Hey, I hope you're okay. My little system stopped working yesterday while I was in the kitchen and hasn't booted back up since. I really want to fix it if possible, or at least figure out what's wrong so I can replace the parts. It includes: an i5-8600k CPU, ASUS TUF Z370-PLUS Gaming motherboard, a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050-Ti GPU with two TridentZ RGB DDR4 RAM sticks at 3200MHz, 8GB of memory (still brand new), a 10W 600W silver PSU, a Dark Rock TF 220W CPU cooler with three case fans, and a few other components.

Since then I've tried a bunch of fixes: re-seating RAM, swapping RAM slots, putting RAM in different slots, trying a different power supply, changing the CMOS battery, resetting the RTC, removing the CPU cooler to check for damage, and even swapping out the PSU. I've also tried another PSU with less power. Nothing worked until now.

The motherboard lights are still on in red, and when I try to turn it on after plugging it back in, the PSU switch makes a brief fan spin and the LED changes to "on" for a split second. But it doesn't last. I'm pretty sure something is wrong—either the CPU or the board itself.

I attached a video from July 4, 2022, showing me trying to power it up again. Thanks for all the help!

You've checked several PSUs and done some tests, but it seems the issue might be with the motherboard itself. I'm not sure if the tested PSU was reliable or if it matched the ATX standard. The problem got worse when I swapped a Lenovo PSU for a Dell one, and neither would power up properly. Upon closer inspection, the Lenovo unit was missing a few wires. So while it's likely the board is faulty, I can't be certain. The main concern is whether this PSU would have worked with the board at all.

It's confirmed to function as intended, the one my father uses regularly on his PC. I'll check tomorrow to see if it matches a standard ATX pin configuration (though I'm pretty sure it does).

Ugh, my guess is wrong. It's still early for that to be gone. Could happen. Seems like you might be within the 5-year warranty window. Reach out to them for details at https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards-Com..._Warranty/

It seems your motherboard might have failed, especially since you used a standard PSU instead of a proprietary one. Based on the troubleshooting you've done, the motherboard and CPU appear to be the likely issues. If you used a compatible power supply, those components should still function.

I went through several troubleshooting steps today following your advice. I also discovered that the power supply unit my father uses has lower wattage. When I checked his PSU, it had the same number of pins as mine did. I performed a "paperclip" test with his PSU, and the same issue occurred when it was connected to my motherboard—just a faint squeal without any response. Additionally, when I connected a single case fan to a Molex connector, it failed to spin up. Only then did the blue LEDs on the fan briefly light up before fading. Eventually, I connected my PSU to his PC using a 4-pin CPU power connector and the 24-pin EATX power connector for the motherboard. After that, only a brief initial noise came from the PSU, and his speaker didn’t produce any POST beep. It seems my PSU might be faulty, especially since it didn’t work on either of my systems. Could a failing PSU potentially affect or damage my motherboard? Based on the other PSU not powering my PC, it did work at least as well as mine, as shown in the initial video. The attached pictures show the EATX connectors from both PSUs, with mine’s on one image and his on the other.

I solved it at the end. A friend brought me another one, and now it's working again. Thanks for all the assistance! <3
