Hello, I recently acquired a used MSI B450 Tomahawk with an R5 3600 processor. After purchasing a new R5 5600, I needed to update the BIOS to enable the new CPU. Initially, I attempted using Flashback+, but it didn’t work—plugging in a USB drive triggered a red light, and the PC would power on and then shut off repeatedly before restarting normally. Eventually, I managed to complete the BIOS update via m-flash and install the new CPU. However, since then, the system has become extremely slow—sluggish performance across all tasks, lag in BIOS updates, file transfers, and app launches. Temperatures stay below 40°C. I’ve tried reseating RAM, using single sticks, switching GPUs, different power supplies (Enermax Liberty 500W and Evolveo FX 500), performing a clean installation, changing BIOS versions, clearing CMOS, using a single RAM stick, and even replacing connectors (including trying another case). I no longer have access to the original CPU. The full specifications are available online. Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m really struggling right now.

I attempted to reset the system's power management settings. Updating the BIOS involves installing the latest firmware on your motherboard, while a normal BIOS update uses a microflash tool to apply changes without replacing the chip.

You spent a lot of time fixing issues, but adding another step doesn’t help. I suggest dismantling the whole system and rebuilding it from the beginning. Begin with the least essential parts and work your way up. Good luck!

Thank you, but I've repeated this process multiple times as discussed, including trying individual parts, which didn't assist. I'm planning to use the BIOS Flashback feature and will check the results.

Flashback is generally straightforward to apply. Remember to reset the CMOS afterward.

It seems MSI provides a setting in BIOS to refresh the firmware, which is much safer than performing a blind QFlash.

Yes, the PC functions as expected with your older chip.

I don’t have the access anymore, but I’d be happy to help you find out.
