System running slowly on the new PC.
Hi, I’m facing some issues with my new PC. The disk stays at full speed even when I launch programs, which slows everything down a lot. I managed to play Tomb Raider Legend for about five minutes without problems, but it crashed afterward. Since the crash happened, I can’t run it and keep seeing the error about graphics hardware being blocked and Intel drivers failing. In Task Manager my memory stays at 80% even when idle. I don’t plan on heavy gaming like Battlefield 4, but I want to play simple games such as CS:GO, Minecraft, and Tomb Raider. Can you help?
Specs: CPU – Intel Core i3 4170, GPU – Integrated HD 4440, RAM – 4GB, Storage – 500GB HDD, Motherboard – Gigabyte H97 Gaming, OS – Windows 10 Build 10130
You might want to upgrade your HDD; Toshiba models aren't ideal for gaming performance. Consider switching to something like a Seagate Barracuda. Running Intel graphics won’t be great for games like CS:GO, and your CPU isn’t terrible but isn’t strong either. You’re using a non-final version of Windows 10, which could cause compatibility problems with certain titles. Defragment your drive, free up space, and stop background processes whenever possible.
Integrated graphics utilizes your RAM as VRAM. The standard setting is 2GB, which together with regular OS and background tasks might account for your high memory consumption when idle. You can adjust the maximum amount in BIOS, but I prefer having more RAM available. A budget-friendly dedicated GPU such as the 750Ti would also work well.
