System restarts when under stress from graphics or processing components
I'm facing a serious issue with my system. About two weeks ago, my entire PC would shut down completely before I could restart, especially during gaming sessions or when launching programs. I've run stress tests and discovered that both the GPU and CPU become unstable under load—about 10 minutes on Cinebench and around 15 minutes on FurMark. This is concerning because I recently purchased these components five months ago, and they performed well until now. Since installing everything, I haven't opened the case for any troubleshooting.
I've taken several steps to resolve or diagnose the problem: upgraded power supply from 650W to 750W and replaced all cables, reset the power supply, updated BIOS, Windows, GPU drivers, and chipset drivers, reset CMOS, removed a RAM stick from my dual-board setup to test each one separately, checked thermal paste, and even tried stress-testing the CPU with Prime95 95 through Ultimate Boot CD to rule out Windows issues. The CPU still wouldn't boot, so I went through event viewer and found an error ID of 41 related to kernel-power. I removed the reset header in case it was a short circuit, but without a spare board I'm unsure what to do next.
I'm worried about a CPU or motherboard fault, but I don’t have another unit to test. My current specs are: Windows 11 64-bit (22H2), Ryzen 7 5800X3D, no overclocking, CPU cooler from Cooler Master, RAM of 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance RGB at 2133 MHz, MSI RTX 3070 Gaming X Trio, main drive a Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, plus 970 Evo 1TB and 850 EVO 250 PSU from Gigabyte UD750GM (750W, 80+ gold).
Sadly, the situation remains the same. A new friend arrived with a spare Kingston Hyper X KHX3200C16D4/8GB RAM and an old GPU, but the problems continue. I also found a set of Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 4GB memory sticks, which didn’t help either. I won’t run Cinebench without restarting the system.
