System restarts unexpectedly on a PC.
My computer frequently restarts on its own without a crash screen, often during LoL sessions and typically after midnight. It reboots right after launching the game, even after just a few seconds of play (1-2 seconds). This happens continuously whenever I try to play LoL. Some applications seem to be fine. Initially, I thought it was overheating, but temperatures are normal and it works even with all fans at full speed. I ran MemTest86 on one drive at a time. With the XMP profile enabled, both drives cause the test to restart after about five minutes with an unusual sound. When XMP is off, MemTest86 passes on both. The issue seems tied to a 2.5" spinning disk used for the boot drive; plugging it in causes immediate reboots every time. Once connected, everything functions properly. Any suggestions on what else I could try or what might be wrong? There are related discussions, but none quite match this situation.
Are you sure the reset function isn't being activated? Consider simply disconnecting it from your motherboard.
The initial concern is related to RAM as my system has been restarting unexpectedly because of inconsistent RAM performance. I plan to check the default settings on the motherboard instead of using the XMP profile to determine if the problem persists. I recall that after setting my RAM speeds to default, the restart issues disappeared. Then I gradually raised the speed until the issue reappeared and finally lowered it slightly below that level.
You're asking if the reset button might be being pressed and wondering about the ram speeds and memory status. It sounds like you're concerned about instability and whether underclocking or default settings could help. The reboots with the hard drive might relate to the same issue.
I need to make sure my RAM matches the intended 3200MT. I managed to push it up to 3800MT, but the overclock instructions were very close—sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t. I only had to restart my PC a few times without any crashes or BSODs. It seems something is not working well with that high speed. As Brooksie suggested, start with the default setting and gradually increase it. Good luck!
With extremely fast RAM, they claim a certain speed, but it isn't always confirmed, particularly at very high frequencies like 4000 MHz. If your CPU memory controller performs poorly compared to standard settings, it might lead to instability around that frequency. Still, it's not entirely out of control—reboots typically occur only under specific conditions, though this could indicate broader issues. I experienced the same problem; RAM speeds were stable for about 99.9% of tasks, but a small fraction caused my computer to restart.
I isolated the PSU using an older model, removed the GPU and used only 8pin for the CPU. The computer stopped rebooting when connected to the HDD—first success. I also managed to run memtest at XMP. After switching to a new 1000w PSU, the issue seems resolved! Thanks everyone for your support!
