Before we begin, here are your details: MSI RTX 3050, X 8GB Intel i5-9400f, MSI Z390 A-Pro 500gb M.2 SSD, 750w 80gold EVGA PSU. I upgraded my CPU on a tight budget for streaming. Previously running an i3-8100, it struggled with 4 cores for streaming. To save money, I bought a used i5-9400f for around $89 from Amazon. The installation was straightforward except the fan didn’t fit. After some initial hiccups—reboots without errors, but stuck in loops—I switched to safe mode and updated the GPU drivers. Eventually, my PC booted up again, and I tested streaming on Discord and Stream Labs for three hours without issues. Later, after a reboot, I installed a new M.2 SSD and fresh W11 OS, which worked smoothly for about five minutes before another loop. I added my girlfriend’s 1650 super and it functioned properly, but after fifteen minutes it crashed again. Now I’m considering replacing the used CPU with a new one. Has anyone faced this issue? Any tips on resolving it? I’m close to rebuilding my whole system, which is tough given my recent move and financial constraints. Could there have been a MOS connection problem during installation? Also, my CPU temps hovered around 32°C, and the GPU temps were similar when idle—just like during crashes. Help would be greatly appreciated.

If the problem began after swapping the CPU, the issue is likely with that component. Reinstall it and check for dust in the socket or pads. You might also test with an i3 to determine if the same problem occurs.

I’d revert to your previous CPU and check if the rebooting problem continues. If it does, it’s likely your used CPU has some issues. Verify all connections are clean—re-seat the board, inspect for bent pins, and confirm thermal paste/cooler installation is correct. Also, try resetting the CMOS battery; it shouldn’t cause any damage.
