It wouldn't cause any damage if you removed the front panel connectors while the machine is running. You can use the old screwdriver method to link the power switch pins and start it up. If the power switch feels weak and gives you trouble, you might activate the reset button on those pins as your activation switch. This works only if your case includes a second control.

Swapping them would reverse their effects. Connecting the reset to power while leaving power off would require using the case’s reset button to switch on or off.
